December 2007 Featured Artist: Monte Wilson
Art lingers in the soul, calls to the spirit, brings forth what we inherently know. A True Artist's hand translates their voice into art and moves their message in the viewer's heart with no words spoken. Introducing our December 2007 Feature: Monte Wilson
To write about my work is, for me, a difficult task. My style is continuously evolving and can best be described as realism with a touch of the surreal. Though I paint diverse subject matter, primarily I am a painter of landscapes and the inhabitants there in.
Currently my focus is on the “Tranquility” series, of which, the above piece “Bayou” is the latest. In this group of paintings, my intent is to portray a slice of paradise and, in so doing, provide a subtle reminder of the delicate balance of nature. In the fast paced charge of today's society, with all its distractions and machinations, there are still places serene and tranquil. These dwindling habitats serve as sanctuary for the rest of this planet's residents. And in truth, if not cared for, may someday vanish altogether. The world I see and paint is full of amazing and wonderful images; a collage of micro-worlds within one. I hope this will forever remain with us and not become a distant memory.
When placing brush to canvas I often get lost in the very essence of the scene I am creating, anxious to see where the next stroke leads. It is always an adventure in discovery for me. Each new work is a story in itself. Narratives of how things once were and can be again should conscience prevail. Captured within every painting is a piece of myself; the melody of my heart, the harmony of my soul. Some already see this. Some do not. For those who wish to, I invite you to join me in this journey.
