October 2010 Featured Artist: Debra Blades

I have loved art in almost any form, as long as I can remember... but when I started making abstracts, working with gold, silver and copper leaf, along with hand made papers from around the world, I felt like I was home... Even though each piece is planned out to some extent... you never quite know what the finished piece will look like.

It is always a nice surprise at the end, after the high gloss varnish is added, and seeing the metals reflect a glow from under the paint. Each color of paint reacts differently to each of the metals.

I love to play music while I work, and most of my pieces have been named after The Beatles music, as their music inspires me so much. I was very happy to find out the song titles have no copyright.

My pieces are highly textured, and have been called... "Old World Style,"... "Unique, Unlike Most Abstracts,”... "Very Rich Fine Art,"... "Not Your Typical Abstract."
