artist biography
Shakti Kroopkin was born on the south-side of Chicago in 1976. Twenty-two years later she obtained a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and co-founded a flourishing and noteworthy housing cooperative at the city's north end. She then decamped to live nomadically and otherwise throughout the States.
Kroopkin trumpets hope at the intersections of urban and inartificial conditions. In her works, systemic disconnects sire sprightly abstractions, obstacles spawn optimistic protagonists and rigid lines birth shapes that soften perception.
Currently, the artist lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband, Kevin, their son, Malachi, and two dogs, Singer and Legs.
