David Keene, designer and builder of distinctive homes, artesanal stone mason, sculptor.

Designing and building custom homes in the demanding market of southwestern Connecticut for over twenty-five years and a family history of artesanal stonework dating back four generations, has allowed David to incorporate unique and varied influences into his work. He insisted on being personally involved with all stages of the building process and built all masonry portions of his structures including massive stone fireplaces and surrounding walls.

While studying for a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering at Arizona State University, David's love of the Old West and Native American cultures was stimulated during extensive backcountry exploration in his spare time. He has a particular interest in the material culture of the Native Americans and the infinitely resourceful ways in which they crafted the available flora and fauna into objects to support all aspects of their lives. David is extremely well studied in a wide swath of subjects relating to the natural history and cultures of the southwest.

Initially, David started sculpting for personal satisfaction and recreation, particularly enjoying the research involved to guarantee authenticity and the ability to tell a story via his bronzes. With strong encouragement from his friends and family, he has now decided to devote more time to this endeavor and to offer up some of his favorite pieces for public review. As a sculptor for more than twenty years, David's work has received critical acclaim in juried shows on the East Coast, as well as the highly respected Gateway Show in Farmington, New Mexico.

David currently lives in Lamy, New Mexico with his wife, Bonnie, and black lab, Boone, where the close proximity to the vast wilderness of Glorieta Mesa allows him to find inspiration in the natural history and culture of the Old West.
