Michigan Artist, Jim Young
Like most artists, I became interested in drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. There really aren't any other artists in my family who's footsteps I am following. Art just seemed to suite my personality. I have always been driven by the process of design and the construction of not only a drawing or painting, but many things in our every day life that allow us to see progress. As a child, when I wasn't drawing, I was building a house out of Lego's or making a skateboard ramp out of wood in my back yard. Things haven't changed much today. Whether it be bodywork on a car or refinishing a guitar, I put the same passion into them as I would a painting. It's about visually understanding the beginning and the middle stages of a project that eventually becomes a work of art. And I had to grow and mature as a person to realize that the final results may not always be what I had intended. It may not be a successful end, but what you learn from every drawing or painting or whatever it is you may be working on, is an incredible learning experience and that is what keeps me going. It's the whole reason that I can't wait to do the next piece. With every assignment brings a new challenge.
